
New Delhi, May 20 (H.S.): The central government has extended the term of Tapan Kumar Deka, Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), by another year. His term was set to expire next month. The Cabinet’s Appointment Committee has approved his term extension, and an order has been issued in this regard.
Tapan Deka, an Indian Police Service officer from the 1988 batch of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has special experience in anti-terror operations in Kashmir. He has been serving as the director since 2022 and has held various roles in the intelligence department. The IB is the nation’s internal security and counter-intelligence agency, responsible for monitoring internal threats in the country and advising the government. The IB plays a vital role in maintaining India’s internal security and stability.
