Illegal poppy plants destroyed in Manipur, four arrested for extortion on NH-2

Imphal, 01 March (HS): Security forces launched an poppy destruction operation in Pulejiang village of Saikul police station area of Kangpokpi district of Manipur. During this, illegal poppy crops spread over 30 acres was destroyed.

In the second action, security forces arrested four accused involved in extortion on National Highway-2. All of them were caught from Bimparao area of Kangpokpi district. The arrested accused have been identified as Lungosenam Kipgen (29), Letminlal Kipgen (25), Satminlun Tuboi (24) and Thanggolun Kilong (27). All of them were working for a cadre of an organization called KNFP (P). Two four-wheelers, three mobile phones, a wireless earpiece, ₹8,550 in cash and a Puma bag were recovered from them.

In the third operation, the central forces arrested Saikhom Mahesh Singh (23), an active cadre of the PLA organization, from Kultu village near the Indo-Myanmar border under Chassad police station area of Kamjong district. A pistol, six live 9mm cartridges, a Chinese grenade, a radio set and a mobile phone were recovered from him.

Apart from this, security forces conducted search operations in sensitive areas of hill and valley districts. During this, a huge quantity of arms and explosives were recovered from Samukom area of Machhi police station area of Tengnoupal district. These include a single barrel 12 bore gun, a floor loaded rifle, two country-made mortars, 10 IEDs (about 37 kg), two country-made 9mm pistols with magazines, 36 live cartridges of different types, six hand grenades, 10 electric detonators, a handset and a charger.
