Guwahati, 06 March (HS): Vehicles loaded with illegal rice keep passing through the national highway of Assam. The Special Task Force (STF) and Garchuk police conducted a joint operation and seized 240 sacks of illegal government rice near Changsari tollgate in Basisht area on Thursday.

According to sources, rice was being illegally transported from Baghbar in Barpeta to Meghalaya. The mastermind of this smuggling is said to be Sahid, an illegal rice trader from Barpeta. The police have seized the vehicle (AS-28 AC 0203) loaded with rice and arrested two suppliers Jalal Dewan and Zarif Ali. The STF has registered the case at Garchuk police station and started investigation.
