Lisbon, 25 May (H.S.): Chloe Kelly reflected on her journey back to happiness in football, thanking Arsenal for revitalizing her spirit after a challenging season. She revealed that she contemplated stepping away from the sport before joining the Gunners, who helped transform her experience from a real low to a real high. Kelly played an instrumental role in Arsenal’s Champions League final victory over Barcelona, marking the club’s first European title in 18 years.

Initially part of Arsenal’s youth academy from 2010 to 2015, Kelly struggled for playing time at Manchester City, managing only one start in the WSL prior to her deadline-day loan move. Expressing her desire to rediscover joy in football, she appreciated the support from those around her during this transition. After winning the championship, Kelly shared her gratitude with BBC Sport, stating, I have a medal round my neck and emphasized her happiness at Arsenal.

Since rejoining, she made 13 appearances, scoring twice, and played a key part in Arsenal securing a second place in the WSL. Kelly also highlighted the significance of the victory, noting the lengthy and tough journey to get there and celebrating the win with teammates and family.

When asked about possibly taking a break from football before her move to Arsenal, Kelly affirmed it was a consideration, addressing the emotional struggles athletes sometimes face. With her loan set to expire in June and uncertainty about her future with Arsenal, she conveyed her commitment to the club, stating, “I have given my all for the club and the club has given their all for me.”
