In the beginning, it felt like we were playing a Test match says Shubman Gill

Mumbai, May 7 (HS): In an exciting match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), Gujarat Titans defeated Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets based on the Duckworth-Lewis rule.

Mumbai Indians batted first, scoring 155 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. After that, rain disrupted the match several times, and in the end, Gujarat was set a target of 147 runs in 19 overs, which they achieved on the last ball while losing 7 wickets.

After the match, captain Shubman Gill mentioned that when the team went out to chase the target, the conditions felt like a Test match. The wind was strong, and due to the rain, batting became extremely difficult.

Gill said, Our game plan during the powerplay was completely different. For the first four to five overs, it felt like we were playing a Test match. We had to play normal cricket. After the powerplay, we thought we would get back to our game, but the rain kept interrupting.

Gujarat scored only 29 runs in the powerplay, but after that, Gill and Jos Buttler put together a crucial partnership of 72 runs to stabilize the innings. There was also a quick partnership between Gill and Sherfane Rutherford, but suddenly the team lost 4 wickets for just 13 runs in 15 balls, breaking their momentum and causing Gujarat to fall behind the Duckworth-Lewis score.

Gill stated, At that moment, there was a lot of disappointment in the dressing room because we were well ahead in the game at one point. But as soon as that bad session of four overs came, losing 4 wickets for 13 runs felt like a Test match session going against us. That time was quite frustrating, but the universe gave us another chance, and everything turned out fine.

Gill praised Rashid Khan, stating, After giving away 50 runs in 3 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he made a great comeback. Recovering from injury, he was working hard in the nets, and the way he bowled was a very good sign for us.
