
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 23 October (H.S.): Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has described India as a crucial partner for Malaysia in trade and investment, reiterating his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation for regional peace and prosperity. The remarks were made on Thursday following a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Ibrahim shared details of the conversation that took place on Wednesday night. Last night I received a call from my counterpart, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. We discussed efforts to strengthen Malaysia-India bilateral relations to a more strategic and comprehensive level, he wrote.
Ibrahim emphasized that beyond being a key partner in trade and investment, Malaysia also enjoys close cooperation with India in the fields of technology, education, and regional security.The leaders also discussed the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, which is scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur at the end of this month.
Prime Minister Modi informed his Malaysian counterpart that he would attend the summit virtually, as the event coincides with the Diwali festival celebrations in India.
Expressing his understanding, Ibrahim stated, I respect this decision and extend my Diwali greetings to him and all the people of India.
He concluded by affirming that Malaysia remains committed to strengthening relations with India and further enhancing ASEAN-India cooperation towards a more peaceful and prosperous region.
