Washington , 20 June (H.S.): US President Donald Trump recently acknowledged the leadership of India and Pakistan in resolving the recent conflict between their nations, which could have escalated into a nuclear war. This statement came after a luncheon meeting with Pakistan’s military chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the White House. Trump expressed gratitude for the leaders’ decisions to cease hostilities that occurred from May 7 to May 10, contradicting his earlier claims of having brokered the ceasefire. He emphasized his appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with whom he reportedly spoke just before the meeting.
During the meeting, discussions extended to the ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, with speculation regarding potential US military actions using Pakistani bases. Trump expressed interest in forging a trade partnership with Pakistan while also recalling efforts to develop similar relations with India. The Pakistani army voiced its gratitude towards Trump for his efforts in facilitating peace during the recent crisis, acknowledging his diplomatic role and strategic foresight.
In earlier developments, India had conducted military operations targeting terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan, which led to the subsequent escalation of conflict. Trump stated, “two very smart people decided not to keep going with that war,” highlighting the gravity of the situation as involving two nuclear powers.
Moreover, Munir suggested President Trump be considered for a Nobel Peace Prize for his role in preventing further escalation. The meeting marks a significant moment, as it is uncommon for a sitting US president to host a luncheon for a foreign army chief, indicating the strategic importance placed on US-Pakistan relations amidst regional tensions. The encounter reflects a commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including trade, technology, and counter-terrorism efforts.
