New Delhi, April 15 (HS): In March, the wholesale inflation rate based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) fell to 2.05 percent, the lowest in four months, down from 2.38 percent in February and 1.89 percent in November.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry reported on Tuesday that the decrease in the prices of essential goods has led to a decline in the wholesale inflation rate. WPI inflation has reduced to 2.05 percent in March. However, on a year-on-year basis, there was an increase, as it was 0.26 percent in March 2024. In March 2025, the wholesale inflation rate increased on a year-on-year basis due to rising prices of food products, other manufacturing, food items, electricity, and textile production, among others. According to the WPI data, food inflation fell to 1.57 percent in March, while it was 3.38 percent in February.
According to ministry data, the main reason for the decline in wholesale inflation is the significant drop in vegetable prices. However, inflation for manufactured products increased to 3.07 percent in March, compared to 2.86 percent in February. Additionally, an increase was also observed in fuel and electricity, which stood at 0.20 percent in March.
