Indian athletes continue to shine in Special Olympics Winter Games

New Delhi, March 15 (H.S.): India continued its stellar performance at the Special Olympics World Winter Games by securing 15 additional medals on the third and fourth days. With these new medals, India’s total medal count has increased to 24. Earlier, Indian athletes had won 9 medals in the initial days.

Golden performance in Alpine Skiing

In Alpine Skiing, Deepak Thakur and Giridhar excelled by winning gold medals in the Intermediate Super G M04 and M05 categories. Meanwhile, Abhishek Kumar showcased an impressive performance in the Novice Super G M01 category and earned a silver medal. In the women’s category, Radha Devi won a silver medal in the Intermediate Super G F03 event, enhancing the country’s honor.

India’s success in Short Track Speed Skating

Continuing India’s success on ice, Ziyara Porter demonstrated remarkable speed and skill by winning two silver medals in the 111M F1 and 222M F2 events. Additionally, Tanshu secured a bronze in the 777M M2 category and a silver medal in the 500M M3 category. India also showcased its dominance in Cross Country Skiing, where Aakriti won a bronze medal in the 50M Classical Technique Final F03.

India’s dominance in Snowshoeing

Indian players performed exceptionally well in the Snowshoeing events. Vasu Tiwari won a gold medal in the 50M Race M03 category, while Jahangir and Tanya earned silver medals in the 50M Race M04 and F02 categories, respectively. Shalini Chauhan added to the medal tally by winning a bronze medal in the 50M Race F03 category. Furthermore, in the 200M race, Anil Kumar won gold in the M12 division, and Harleen Kaur claimed silver in the F12 division.

With these achievements, Indian athletes showcased their talent and resilience on the international stage. This tournament, hosting over 1500 athletes from 102 countries, is committed to promoting inclusivity in sports and providing every athlete with an equal opportunity to demonstrate their talent.
