Indian Embassy in Portugal addresses protest by Pakistani nationals outside its chancery in Lisbon

Lisbon, 19 May (H.S.): The Indian Embassy in Portugal reacted strongly to a protest organized by Pakistani nationals outside its Chancery in Lisbon, labeling it a desperate provocation. The Embassy announced its response through Operation Sindoor, asserting India’s determination not to be intimidated. In a post on X, the Embassy expressed gratitude towards the Portuguese government and police for ensuring safety during the incident. Accompanying the post were images of Indian officials on the embassy balcony, with banners stating, Operation Sindoor is not yet over.

India’s Ambassador to Portugal, Puneet Roy Kundal, also addressed the issue on social media, reinforcing that the protests prompted a silent but resolute response indicating that Operation Sindoor is not yet over. He emphasized the unwavering stance of all embassy officers in this approach.

Operation Sindoor, initiated by Indian armed forces on May 7, aimed at dismantling nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following a terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 civilian casualties on April 22. India insisted its response was precise and non-escalatory. However, tensions escalated as Pakistan conducted drone and missile strikes into Indian territory, leading to armed conflict. Eventually, military officials from both nations communicated to establish a ceasefire agreement encompassing land, sea, and air operations.
