Austin (Texas), May 21(HS): In a horrifying incident in Austin, the capital of Texas, 30-year-old Indian-origin entrepreneur Akshay Gupta was brutally murdered on a public bus. The incident occurred on the evening of May 14 while Gupta was traveling on the bus. According to the police, he was suddenly attacked by another Indian national.

Akshay Gupta was a co-founder of a health-tech startup and was among the active entrepreneurs in Austin. According to the Austin Police Department, they received reports of a stabbing on a bus. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Gupta with severe injuries. Although first aid and life-saving efforts were attempted, he was declared dead at the scene.

The accused is a 31-year-old man named Deepak Kandel, who is also of Indian origin and is currently homeless. The investigation revealed that he was sitting next to Akshay on the bus and attacked him with a knife in a butcher style without any provocation.

According to Reports , the CCTV footage from the bus shows Gupta sitting quietly when the accused suddenly drew a knife and attacked him. After the attack, the bus was stopped, and Kandel fled with other passengers. The police apprehended him shortly after.

During interrogation, Kandel stated that he attacked Gupta because he resembled his uncle. Kandel has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Travis County Jail. According to a report by CBS Austin, Kandel has a long criminal history, including several arrests. However, charges were not filed against him in four cases, no charges were recorded in two cases, and three cases were dismissed.
