Indian junior women's hockey team defeated Uruguay 3-2 in a four-nation tournament

New Delhi, May 26 (H.S.): In a friendly hockey tournament being held in Rosario, Argentina, the Indian junior women’s hockey team registered a spectacular victory by defeating Uruguay 3-2 in their second match. Sonam (21st minute) and Kanika Sivech (46th minute, 50th minute) scored crucial goals for India, while Milagros Sigal (3rd minute) and Agustina Mari (24th minute) found the net for Uruguay.

Uruguay displayed aggressive play right from the start of the match, with Milagros Sigal converting a penalty corner into a goal in the third minute to give her team an early lead. India made a comeback in the second quarter when Sonam equalized through a penalty corner in the 21st minute. However, just three minutes later, Uruguay regained their lead when Agustina Mari also scored from a penalty corner.

The score remained 2-1 until the third quarter, but in the final phase, Kanika Sivech put on a stellar performance, bringing India back into the game. She scored from a penalty corner in the 46th minute and then secured a decisive lead for India with a brilliant field goal in the 50th minute.

India’s next match will be against the host nation Argentina on May 28 (Indian time).
