New Delhi, May 21 (H.S.): Indian woman boxers are all set to enter the international ring for the first time after the Paris Olympics. Indian boxers will participate in two major tournaments, the Thailand Open and the World Boxing Cup.

The Thailand Open will take place from May 24 in Bangkok, while the World Boxing Cup will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, starting on June 30.

According to the new selection policy of the Indian Boxing Federation (BFI), national champions will compete in the World Boxing Cup, while silver medalists will get the opportunity in the Thailand Open. This selection process applies equally to both men’s and women’s categories.

Many crucial tournaments missed in the past year

Due to delays in BFI’s national camps during the Olympic cycle and multiple postponements of the women’s national championships, Indian boxers had to miss important tournaments like the Asian Championships and the Strandja Memorial. While male boxers made their comeback through the World Boxing Cup in April, the women got a delayed opportunity as their national matches were held at the end of March.

Indian boxing currently under the interim committee of the World Boxing organization

BFI elections have been postponed indefinitely. In this context, the interim committee formed by the World Boxing organization is conducting all activities related to Indian boxing.

The return of Indian women boxers to the international stage will be a significant opportunity for them to showcase their skills and confidence.
