
Delhi, 2 June (H.S.): India’s coal production and dispatch saw steady growth in May 2025, achieving 86.24 MT (Provisional) compared to 83.96 MT in May 2024. Production from captive/commercial mines rose significantly to 16.93 MT (Provisional) from 13.83 MT year-on-year. As of May 31, 2025, coal stocks held by companies increased by 29.18%, reaching 122.69 MT, up from 94.98 MT in the previous year. This growth underscores the rising contribution of captive mining to overall output. The Ministry of Coal is committed to sustainable growth, enhancing coal availability, and minimizing import reliance, reinforcing the coal sector’s critical role in India’s economic development.
