Chennai, 24 April (H.S.) : In a shocking incident, the body of an infant was discovered wrapped in a nightie and abandoned in a garbage bin in Chennai, police reported on Thursday.

The grim discovery was made by sanitation workers in the early hours of the morning in a residential area.

According to authorities, the infant, believed to be a newborn, was found in a secluded alley. Preliminary investigations suggest the baby was deceased before being placed in the bin.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify suspects.

Local residents expressed outrage and sorrow over the incident, with community leaders calling for increased awareness and support for vulnerable families.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death and further details about the infant.
