New Delhi, May 15 (HS): On Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh raised global concerns about the security of nuclear weapons in Pakistan, suggesting they be placed under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supervision. He drew attention to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, framing it as an assault on India’s social unity, and asserted that while Pakistan targets India, India inflicts counter-pain. Singh emphasized that the solution to Pakistan’s issues lies in ceasing its support for terrorism and not enabling such activities against India.
This visit to Srinagar marked Singh’s first after the postponement of Operation ‘Sindoor’ aimed at countering Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, where he thanked soldiers for their role in the military actions. Speaking at Badami Bagh Cantonment, he praised the forces for their successful operations against enemy positions across the border, stating, You maintained your enthusiasm and skillfully ruined the enemy’s positions.
He elaborated on Operation ‘Sindoor’ as embodying soldiers’ aspirations to eradicate terrorist hideouts and affirmed that Pakistan’s earlier promise to stop exporting terrorism has turned out to be a deception, leading to significant consequences for them. Singh stressed that the operation’s success signals to terrorists and their backers in Pakistan that they are not safe from Indian forces, which remain meticulously accurate in their targeting.
Highlighting India’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, he dismissed fears over nuclear blackmail from Pakistan, pointing out their consistent irresponsible threats. Singh posed a pressing query to the world regarding the safety of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal in light of their actions, reiterating the need for international scrutiny. He concluded by noting the differences in response to terrorism: while Pakistan engages in religiously motivated killings, India retaliates based on actions, fulfilling its obligations to protect its citizens.
