
Delhi, 27 April (H.S.): The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sunayna, referred to as IOS SAGAR, arrived at Port Louis Harbour, Mauritius on April 26, marking the completion of Phase I of Joint EEZ surveillance with the National Coast Guard (NCG) Mauritius. This deployment emphasizes India’s commitment to regional maritime cooperation and capacity building within the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The vessel, which departed Karwar on April 5, carries 44 naval personnel including officers and sailors from nine friendly nations, including two officers and six sailors from Mauritius.
The ship received a warm welcome from key dignitaries, including Mr. Sooroojebally R, Commissioner of Police, showcasing the strong ties between India and Mauritius. Following the reception, dignitaries toured the ship and interacted with the multinational crew. During the two-day port call, several activities are planned, including meetings with high-ranking officials, visits to various police and maritime forces, and friendly interactions, including a joint yoga session and sports fixtures. The ship will also be open for visitor tours on April 27, 2025.
After concluding the visit, IOS SAGAR will proceed to Phase II of the Joint EEZ surveillance with NCG Mauritius before heading to Port Victoria, Seychelles. The ship is a modern Saryu class NOPV designed for various operations, including anti-piracy and maritime surveillance.
