
Kolkata, May (H.S.) : In the 57th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated the host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by two wickets. This loss has dealt a blow to Kolkata’s hopes of reaching the playoffs.
Chasing a target of 180 runs set by Kolkata, CSK got off to a poor start. Both openers, Ayush Mhathre and Devon Conway, were dismissed without scoring any runs. Then, Urvil Patel, making his IPL debut, played some good shots to bring the team back into contention. Urvil scored 31 runs off 11 balls. R. Ashwin, who was promoted in the batting order (8 runs), and Ravindra Jadeja (19 runs) also returned to the pavilion quickly. However, Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis formed a 67-run partnership, putting the team in a strong position. In the end, Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 17 runs to lead the team to victory.
For Kolkata, Vaibhav Arora took three wickets, while Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy each took two wickets. Moeen Ali also bagged one wicket.
Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat, KKR scored 179 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane scored 48 runs and Sunil Narine contributed 26 runs. Andre Russell (38 runs) and Manish Pandey (36 runs) remained not out.
For Chennai, Noor Ahmad took four wickets, while Anshul Kamboj and Ravindra Jadeja each took one wicket.
