Mullanpur, April 8 (H.S.): In a match played on Tuesday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Punjab Kings returned to victory by defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 18 runs, while Chennai faced their fourth consecutive defeat. Punjab, batting first, scored 219 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. In response, Chennai managed only 201 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs.

Chasing the target set by Punjab, the Chennai team started quickly. Opening batsmen Rachin Ravindra and Conway made runs at a brisk pace, adding 58 runs in the powerplay. However, as soon as the powerplay ended, Rachin was out after scoring 36 runs. Following this, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also returned to the pavilion for just one run. At this juncture, Conway found support in Shivam Dube, and together they formed a partnership of 89 runs for the third wicket. Conway played a knock of 69 runs and also completed his 1000 runs in IPL. Besides Conway, Shivam Dube scored 42 runs, and Dhoni made 27 runs off 12 balls. However, despite all efforts, Chennai could not achieve the target and suffered a defeat by 18 runs.

From Punjab’s side, Lockie Ferguson took two wickets, while Yash Thakur and Glenn Maxwell each took one wicket.

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat, Punjab Kings set a score of 238 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Opening batsman Priyansh Arya scored a brilliant century, making 102 runs off 42 balls with the help of 7 fours and 9 sixes. Besides him, Shashanks Singh scored 52 runs and Marco Jansen added 34 runs. None of the remaining batsmen could reach double figures.

For Chennai, Khaleel Ahmed and R. Ashwin took two wickets each, while Noor Ahmed and Mukesh Choudhary took one wicket each.
