Tehran, 31 October (H.S.): Iran’s Foreign Minister on Thursday sharply condemned a surprise directive from US President Donald Trump to resume nuclear testing, labeling the move regressive and irresponsible and a serious threat to international peace and security.
The strong rebuke came after Trump announced plans for the United States to restart the testing of atomic weapons. In a social media post, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US of being a nuclear-armed bully that is now escalating global tensions.
He drew a sharp contrast between the US action and its long-standing criticism of Iran’s nuclear activities, stating, The same bully has been demonizing Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
Araghchi’s comments highlight the deep-seated mistrust between the two nations. He argued that while the US points fingers at Iran’s safeguarded nuclear facilities, it is simultaneously taking a dangerous step that could provoke a new arms race.
Make no mistake: The US is the World’s Most Dangerous Proliferation Risk, he asserted, calling on the international community to hold the US accountable. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, recently stated that there is no evidence Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program .
Trump’s order to resume testing, the first for the US in over three decades, has been met with widespread concern from arms control experts who warn it could be a profoundly destabilizing decision.
