Srinagar- The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed social media platforms to provide information on individuals who allegedly uploaded objectionable content against Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, while advancing the hearing in his defamation suit to December 16.

Justice Amit Bansal allowed an application filed by Choudhary seeking preponement of the hearing, which had earlier been fixed for January 13, 2026. The Court said the matter will now be taken up next week.

The Court asked Meta Platforms to furnish internet protocol addresses and basic subscriber information related to the uploaders within three days. It further directed Choudhary to implead those individuals as parties in the case and serve them advance copies of proceedings.

During the hearing, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayyar, appearing for Choudhary, urged the Court to order the removal of the alleged defamatory videos. He said the content had superimposed Choudhary’s images alongside a woman, portraying a relationship with objectionable connotations.

The Court, however, declined immediate takedown of the content, stating that those who uploaded the material must first be made parties to the case. It also noted that several defendants appeared to be news channels.

Choudhary’s counsel submitted that most of the impugned content, carrying sexual insinuations, dates back nearly two years. Many URLs linked to posts published by media agencies.

Besides Meta, the Court also directed Google LLC and other platforms to share relevant details of Facebook pages and YouTube channels that uploaded the content in question.

The case is titled Surinder Kumar Choudhary v. Google LLC and others. (KNT)
