Dhaka, Bangladesh, September 4 (H.S.): Bangladesh Police have filed charges against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 243 others in two murder cases linked to last July’s mass uprising in Rajshahi. Investigators have reportedly found sufficient evidence implicating Hasina, former minister Obaidul Quader, and former Rajshahi city mayor Khairuzzaman Liton, among others, in the killings that occurred during the violent demonstrations.
According to The Daily Star, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Gaziur Rahman confirmed that their names have been included in the charge sheets. The Detective Branch of RMP conducted the investigation and recently submitted the charge sheets to the courts.
RMP Court Police Inspector Abdur Rafiq explained that nine separate cases were registered across multiple police stations in connection with the July uprising, which witnessed widespread violence. Of these, two cases were specifically related to murders, while the remaining pertained to various acts of rioting and assault.
He further stated that police have now submitted charge sheets in all nine cases, covering a total of 529 individuals. Out of these, Sheikh Hasina and 243 others are named in the two murder cases.
