Prayagraj, 13 April (HS): Rakesh
Tikait, leader of the Bhartiya Kisan Union, said on Sunday that a farmers’
gathering will be convened in Prayagraj on May 8 to address alleged anomalies
in land acquisition. He claimed that land acquisition is a major issue in the
country. Land is being seized in the
guise of land acquisition. He said that
the land is being registered in the names of different persons as part of a
scheme in tehsils to keep people fighting with one another. Tikait, a leading
player in the farmers’ campaign against the now-repealed three core
legislation, told reporters here that farmers are harassed when they approach
officials for land measurements.
If a businessman requests for a
land measurement, his property is measured quickly. A large mobilization is
also required in Prayagraj, he stated. In response to the murder of a Dalit man
in the Karchana police station area of Prayagraj district, Tikait said that law
and order had failed in Uttar Pradesh. Tikait further stated that he planned to
visit with the families of three individuals slain in Fatehpur.
