Kathmandu, March 03 (HS): Nepal’s KP Sharma Oli government seems to be stuck on the six ordinances and three bills brought. The leaders of the Nepali Congress, the largest constituent party in the government, have openly come out in opposition to this. The ordinances have not been presented in Parliament even after a month. If they are not passed by both houses of Parliament in the next 30 days, they will automatically be rejected. The Janata Samajwadi Party, which is supporting the government from outside, has also decided not to support these ordinances. Because of this, the government has not been able to garner a majority in the upper house.
The ruling constituent party Nepali Congress is also opposing three bills. These include the bill brought to control social media, the bill related to the merger of security forces and the bill related to the Armed Police Force. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, leader of the Nepali Congress, included in the Oli government. A large faction of his party has started speaking against these bills.
In the last two days, many senior leaders of Congress have together made public statements against the government and these bills. In a program organized in Kathmandu today, Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa said that the Oli government has acted arbitrarily in bringing the bill. If Oli does anything right or left, then support will have to be considered. Thapa said that the way the Social Media Bill and the Security Bill have been brought, they cannot be passed without making changes.
In a program organized in Pokhara today, Nepali Congress leader and former Foreign Minister NP Saud said that the government should stop showing arrogance of two-thirds. The bill related to security forces has been brought due to this arrogance. It cannot be supported.
Senior leader of Nepali Congress and former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Balkrishna Khand said in Bhairahawa on Sunday that the coalition is deviating from its original objective and bringing bills on controversial subjects. Nepali Congress is the biggest party in this country. Khand alleged that Oli is imposing his policies on Congress.
