Lionel Messi suffers injury, subbed off Inter Miami match early

Lionel Messi suffers injury

Fort Lauderdale, 3 August (H.S.): Lionel Messi’s appearance for Inter Miami CF in their Leagues Cup match against Necaxa was cut short, as he left the field within 10 minutes. In the seventh minute, Messi collided with two Necaxa defenders at the penalty area, showing signs of discomfort. He continued playing briefly but required medical attention before being substituted by Federico Redondo in the 11th minute.

Despite Messi’s early departure, Miami fans quickly found relief, as Telasco Segovia scored just two minutes later. However, the situation worsened for Miami when center back Maxi Falcón received a straight red card, reducing the team to ten men. Necaxa equalized in the 33rd minute.

Concerns over Messi’s injury have spread among fans, particularly as he was seen walking to the locker room post-match. Initial assumptions suggested a possible hamstring injury, with speculation indicating a recovery period of three to four weeks. While Inter Miami has not officially confirmed the injury’s severity, insider reports, particularly from Claudio Futbol, mentioned hamstring tenderness and bruising.

Further insights from Miami Herald’s Michelle Kaufman hinted at a right upper thigh injury. If his injury indeed pertains to the hamstring, Messi’s participation in the ongoing Leagues Cup may be in jeopardy.

Inter Miami has a hectic schedule in August, with five games slated, including matches against Pumas UNAM, Orlando City, LA Galaxy, DC United, and Chicago Fire after the Necaxa encounter. The uncertainty surrounding Messi’s situation adds significant concern to the team’s prospects in these upcoming fixtures.
