Lucknow, 08 May (HS): On May 11, a
BrahMos missile production complex worth Rs 300 crore will be launched in
Lucknow, according to an official. According to a government release, the
factory was constructed in 3.5 years as part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence
Industrial Corridor. The statement comes while India is embroiled in an armed
conflict with Pakistan, with both armies firing heavily over the Line of
Control, and multiple terror camps in Pakistan destroyed.
Shrihari Pratap Shahi, Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Uttar Pradesh
Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), stated that the state
gave the plant with 80 hectares of free land in December 2021. The unit plans
to employ around 500 engineers and technicians, as well as thousands of
trained, semi-skilled, and general people as indirect recruits. The BrahMos
missile was developed by BrahMos Aerospace, an Indian-Russian joint company. Furthermore,
Uttar Pradesh is becoming as an important center for defense industry, having
awarded 117.35 hectares of land to 12 additional defense enterprises under the
Defence Corridor project. According to
the statement, these defense projects are expected to produce more than 3,000
employment in the region.
