
Delhi, 12 March (H.S.): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasized India’s esteemed friendship with Madagascar during a bilateral meeting with the Malagasy Parliamentary Delegation, led by President H.E. Mr. Justin Tokely. He highlighted Madagascar’s importance as a partner in India’s SAGAR vision, reinforcing regional stability and economic prosperity in the Indian Ocean.
Om Birla noted the strong historical bonds between the two nations, rooted in trade and culture, while advocating for the principle of ‘Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam’—making India a proactive supporter of Madagascar, especially in humanitarian assistance during disasters. He mentioned the significance of the Indian Diaspora in bolstering ties and celebrated successful initiatives like the ‘Jaipur Foot Camp’ for the differently-abled in Madagascar.
He spoke on India’s democratic legacy and significant voter engagement, with a 66% turnout in the upcoming elections. The discussion included the functioning of India’s Parliament, with ambitions for
programs through PRIDE for Madagascar’s legislators.
President Tokely expressed gratitude for the hospitality and showed interest in enhancing cooperation in agriculture, maritime security, health, and education, as well as cultural exchanges between the two nations.
