Magnus Carlsen leads Norway Chess after impressive fourth round comeback

Magnus Carlsen and Arjun Erigaisi

Stavanger, May 30 (H.S.): World number 1 Magnus Carlsen showcased his skills with a brilliant endgame win over India’s number 2, Arjun Erigaisi, rebounding after two previous Armageddon losses. In a match between D Gukesh and world number 3 Fabiano Caruana, Caruana held a strong position but couldn’t convert it due to Gukesh’s defensive prowess, leading Gukesh to victory in the Armageddon.

The classical match between world number 2 Hikaru Nakamura and Wei Yi ended in a draw, with Wei Yi winning the subsequent Armageddon. In the women’s tournament, Anna Muzychuk and Koneru Humpy share the lead, while newcomer Sara Khademalsharieh secured her first win against Lie Tingjie.
