LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND, 20 October (H.S.): Harry Maguire’s late header sealed a dramatic 2-1 victory for Manchester United against Liverpool on Sunday, ending an almost decade-long winless streak at Anfield and handing the hosts their fourth consecutive defeat.
United stunned the home crowd by taking the lead just 63 seconds into the match through Bryan Mbeumo, who capitalized on a moment of confusion after Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister went down with a head injury.
Despite the early goal, Liverpool created numerous chances, with Cody Gakpo hitting the woodwork three times throughout the match.Gakpo finally found the net in the 78th minute, equalizing for Liverpool with a close-range finish that seemed to salvage a point for the struggling champions.
However, United responded just six minutes later when Bruno Fernandes delivered a superb cross for Maguire, who headed home the winner, marking his first league goal since February.
The result is a significant one for both clubs. For Manchester United, it marks their first back-to-back Premier League wins under manager Ruben Amorim and a major boost in a thus-far inconsistent season. For Liverpool, the loss compounds a worrying dip in form, marking the first time they have lost four games in a row since November 2014 under Brendan Rodgers.
