
New Delhi, 1 May (HS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a foundation day event for Gujarat and Maharashtra in New Delhi, emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s formula for national development through healthy competition among states. He recalled the bifurcation of Bombay State into Gujarat and Maharashtra on May 1, 1960, showcasing how both states have positively contributed to the nation’s growth while maintaining mutual respect.
HM Shah noted that this day is celebrated nationwide and reflects Modi’s vision of One India, Great India. He acknowledged the rich literary heritage of both Gujarati and Marathi languages, emphasizing their cultural significance. Both states, according to HM Shah, have balanced modernity with tradition, enhancing national unity. He shared his personal ties to both states, stating he was born and married in Maharashtra while working in Gujarat.
Due to a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the celebrations were subdued, and Shah paid tribute to the victims.
Commending Delhi’s improvement under the Lieutenant Governor, he recalled past pollution issues at the Yamuna River and highlighted initiatives to purify it and create a riverfront similar to the Sabarmati. He affirmed the BJP’s commitment to timely completion of these projects, underscoring the importance of the Yamuna’s purification for Delhi and surrounding states. Notable attendees included Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, Supreme Court Justice Prasanna Varale, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Chief Minister of Delhi Rekha Gupta .
