Mamata Banerjee to Deliver Lecture at Oxford University, Set to Seek Investments in London

Kolkata, 7 March (H.S.) – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to embark on a significant visit to London later this month, where she will deliver a lecture at the University of Oxford and hold high-profile investment meetings with industrialists.

According to official sources, Banerjee is scheduled to depart for London on March 21, with her lecture at Oxford set for March 27. The invitation for this prestigious address was extended by Jonathan Michie, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Oxford University, during the Bengal Global Business Summit in November 2023.

During her visit, Banerjee is also expected to meet with key industrialists on March 25 to attract investments for West Bengal. This aligns with her administration’s ongoing efforts to position the state as an attractive investment hub.

This visit marks her second trip to the United Kingdom since November 2017, when she attended a business summit in Edinburgh organized by Scottish Development International, in collaboration with the Asia Scotland Institute and the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce.

Banerjee has actively sought global investments through international visits.

In September 2023, she traveled to Spain to promote investment opportunities in Bengal, followed by a business conference in Dubai.

In September 2018, she visited Italy and Germany, where she met with officials to strengthen trade and diplomatic ties.

In June 2017, she traveled to The Hague, Netherlands, to receive the United Nations Public Services Award in the category of ‘Reaching the Poorest and Most Vulnerable’ for her ‘Kanyashree’ scheme, which provides financial assistance to schoolgirls.
