Kolkata, 18 March (H.S.) -In a major breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested a man carrying a huge cache of firearms at Sealda Station on Monday morning. The accused, identified as Hasan Sheikh, was caught red-handed as the Hate Bazare Express pulled into the station.
According to sources, Hasan Sheikh is a resident of Malda. He had traveled by road from Khagaria in Bihar to Mansi and then boarded a train to Kolkata. He was carrying a large quantity of firearms, cleverly concealed within his luggage among clothes. The weapons were reportedly manufactured in Bihar’s Khagaria district and transported via road to Mansi before being loaded onto the train. Hasan was tasked with overseeing the entire operation.
Acting on prior intelligence, the STF had been closely monitoring the train. As soon as it reached Sealdah early in the morning, officers launched a swift operation, leading to Hasan’s arrest along with the illicit arms cache.
This is not the first time illegal arms smuggling has been detected in the Sealdah area. A few months ago, a man was arrested near Surendranath College with firearms. The recurrence of such incidents in a short span has raised serious concerns for law enforcement agencies.
STF officials are now investigating the intended recipients of these weapons and the broader network behind this smuggling operation.
