Mbappé to Undergo Ankle Assessment Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Kylian Mbappé

Paris, October 7(HS): France head coach Didier Deschamps has confirmed that captain Kylian Mbappé will undergo medical tests on his right ankle when he joins the national team camp for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Mbappé sustained the injury on Saturday during Real Madrid’s 3–1 victory over Villarreal, casting doubt on his availability for France’s Group Stage fixtures against Azerbaijan and Iceland later this week.“I have spoken to Kylian,” Deschamps said on Monday.

“He has a slight discomfort, but nothing serious, otherwise he wouldn’t be here. We will assess the situation with the medical staff and see how it evolves. At the moment, I don’t have more details as the players will arrive around 4 p.m. (1400 GMT), after which we will follow the usual evaluation process.”

Deschamps also revealed that Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté will undergo inspection after picking up an injury in Saturday’s 2–1 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League.Les Bleus, currently topping their qualifying group with two wins from two matches, will face Azerbaijan on Friday at Parc des Princes in Paris, before meeting Iceland three days later.
