
Mumbai , May 22 (HS): In the 63rd match of IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by 59 runs. With this victory, Mumbai became the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2025. Earlier, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings had qualified for the playoffs. In this match, Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the Player of the Match.
In the match played at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, Mumbai, batting after losing the toss, scored 180 runs for the loss of five wickets, thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s half-century. In reply, Delhi could manage only 121 runs in 18.2 overs and were all out.
Delhi’s batsmen disappointed in their chase. The highest scorer for them was Sameer Rizvi, who made 39 runs. Additionally, only three batsmen crossed the ten-run mark, including KL Rahul (11), Vipraj Nigam (20), and Ashutosh Sharma (18). The team’s regular captain, Axar Patel, was unable to play due to ill health. Faf du Plessis led Delhi in his absence but scored only six runs. Besides him, Abhishek Porel scored six, Tristan Stubbs made two, Madhav Tiwari scored three, and Kuldeep Yadav made seven runs. Mustafizur Rahman didn’t get a chance to open his account, while Dushmantha Chameera remained not out at eight runs. For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner took three wickets each, while Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Will Jacks, and Karn Sharma claimed one wicket each.
Previously, Mumbai’s start was poor. Former captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for just five runs. Following him, Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton attempted to stabilize the innings, but Jacks got out after scoring 21 runs from 13 balls, while Rickelton managed only 25 runs. Tilak Varma scored 27, and Hardik Pandya added three runs. In contrast, Suryakumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 73 runs off 43 balls, hitting seven fours and six towering sixes. Additionally, Naman Dheer scored 24 runs off eight balls, hitting two fours and two sixes, and remained not out. In the last 12 balls, Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dheer scored 48 runs. For Delhi, Mukesh Kumar took two wickets, while Dushmantha Chameera, Mustafizur Rahman, and Kuldeep Yadav each claimed one wicket.
