Ministry of Finance hosts colloquium for Debt Recovery Tribunals leaders

Ministry of Finance organises a colloquium of Chairpersons of Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunals (DRATs) and Presiding Officers of Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRTs)

Delhi, 24 May (H.S.): The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, held a colloquium on May 24, 2025, at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, bringing together Chairpersons of Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunals (DRATs) and Presiding Officers of Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRTs). Justice S.V.N. Bhatti, Supreme Court Judge, delivered the keynote address. Key DFS officers, public and private sector bank representatives, and the Indian Banks’ Association participated in the event. The DFS Secretary outlined initiatives like revised DRT Regulations, mandatory e-filing, and video-conferencing to improve tribunal efficiency. Discussions focused on effective DRT Regulation implementation, enhancing bank oversight for recovery, prioritizing high-value cases, utilizing alternative dispute resolution methods, training DRT officials, and further reforms to minimize case turnaround time. Stakeholders were called upon to collaborate to reduce case pendency and unlock capital for productive economic use.
