
Mumbai/Delhi, 9 March (H.S.): The Animation Filmmakers Competition is a pioneering initiative focused on identifying and supporting animation storytellers in India. Jointly launched by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) and the animation industry leader Dancing Atoms, the competition provides a platform for filmmakers to showcase original animated films that resonate with audiences. It is part of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), an inaugural and essential event in the Media and Entertainment (M&E) sector.
Scheduled for May 1-4, 2025, at the Jio World Convention Centre & Jio World Gardens in Mumbai, WAVES aims to be a hub for M&E convergence, emphasizing India’s role on the global stage while fostering relationships between Indian talent and international stakeholders. The summit will focus on four key pillars: Broadcasting & Infotainment, AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics, Extended Reality), Digital Media & Innovation, and Films. It is expected to draw industry leaders, creators, and technologists to present the future landscape of India’s entertainment sector.
A central aspect of WAVES is the Animation Filmmakers Competition, which falls under the AVGC-XR pillar. The registration period has closed, resulting in 1,290 submissions, including contributions from 19 international participants. This indicates wide interest in animation as a storytelling medium. The competition aimed to foster diversity among applicants through specific eligibility criteria.
Registrants were required to submit a logline, a concise two-page summary of their film, and an eye-catching poster. Films could be in any language, but submissions had to be in English for the international jury. Selected participants will benefit from masterclasses and mentorship from industry experts to enhance their film ideas. The competition’s multi-stage format seeks to uplift promising concepts, empowering emerging animators and promoting innovation in India’s animation industry on global Platforms.
