New Delhi, April 12 (HS): Spanish young star Carlos Alcaraz has made it to the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters. He defeated local player Arthur Fils 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. The match lasted nearly two and a half hours, featuring a fierce contest between both players.
Fils initially took a 3-0 lead with two breaks, but in the end, experience led Alcaraz to victory. Fils won the first set 6-4 and had several break points in the second set as well, but he couldn’t capitalize on them. Fils wasted seven break points in the second set, while Alcaraz won the set by hitting a superb lob in the 12th game. Fils again took an early lead in the third set, but Alcaraz remained patient and made a comeback, breaking serve twice.
After losing serve in the eighth game of the third set, Fils smashed his racket in frustration. This moment proved decisive, as he could not regain his rhythm afterward, and Alcaraz easily finished the match.
After the victory, Alcaraz said, True champions are those who can find their best level when needed. I also want to play my best tennis from the first point to the last, but it’s not easy to play at a top level for two and a half hours.
On the other hand, four-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas was eliminated by Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, who won 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Musetti will now face Australia’s Alex de Minaur, who defeated Grigor Dimitrov in just 44 minutes with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Dimitrov made 23 unforced errors in the match.
Now, in the semifinals, Carlos Alcaraz will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
