Guwahati 12 April (HS): A woman and her two daughters killed due to drowning in the Kalang river located in the Chandrapur area of Guwahati.

Police said on Saturday that the mother and the both daughters had gone to take a bath in the Kalang river. During this time all three drowned in the river. While bathing, Golapi Devi’s younger daughter Pankit Kumari first drowned in the river due to slipping of her feet. Her mother went to Golapi to save her. While trying to save her daughter, the mother also started drowning. Seeing her mother and sister drowning in the river, the elder sister Nilakshi Kumari went. All three were swept away in the strong current of the river.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, the police and SDRF team reached the spot and conducted a search operation in the river for about 10 hours. First the body of Golabi Devi was recovered. After that the bodies of her two daughters Ankita Kumari and Nilakshi Kumari were recovered.

The police have taken all the three bodies into their custody and sent them to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. There was mourning in the area due to the sudden death of all three. The police have registered an FIR in this regard and are investigating the case.
