Mumbai, April 19 (HS): Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, will be closed for six hours on May 9 from 11 AM to 5 PM. During this time, maintenance work will be carried out on two runways ahead of the monsoon. The airport operator, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), announced in a statement on Saturday that this decision was made due to maintenance needs before the onset of the monsoon. The scheduled shutdown will occur between 11 AM and 5 PM, during which operations on runways 09/27 and 14/32 will be halted. MIAL stated that this work is conducted every year before the monsoon to keep the airport’s runways in good condition. This helps prevent issues such as waterlogging, ensuring that flights can land and take off safely during the rainy season. Expert teams will inspect the runway surfaces for any damage or wear and carry out necessary repairs.
Mumbai International Airport Limited stated that a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months in advance to inform all airlines and airport teams. This has allowed airlines to adjust their flight schedules accordingly.
