NASA warns of impending solar storm threat

NASA issues warning about the threat of solar storms on Earth.

Washington, May 22 (H.S.): NASA has issued a serious warning in light of recent solar activities. Scientists say that the powerful solar flares heading towards Earth could disrupt critical infrastructure such as GPS, radio communication, and power supply in the coming days. This warning comes after the eruption of the most powerful X-2.7 class solar flares of 2025, recorded by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory.

It was reported that this intense solar flare peaked on May 14, which temporarily disrupted high-frequency radio communications in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. According to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), radio services were interrupted for up to 10 minutes in some areas. There is a likelihood that this issue may resurface in the coming days.

The Sun is currently approaching the peak of its 11-year solar cycle, resulting in an increase in the number of explosive sunspots. Scientists believe that even more powerful solar storms could head towards Earth in the coming days, which could affect satellite technology, navigation systems, and the power grid.

What are solar flares?

According to NASA, a solar flare is a sudden and intense explosion of energy that releases an impressive amount of particles, energy, magnetic fields, and matter into the solar system. The recent X-2.7 class solar flare is considered one of the highest power explosions, which can directly affect the upper atmosphere of the Earth.
