Nepal Sends 27 Tons of Relief Supplies to Earthquake-Affected Myanmar

Nepalese officials handed over relief material to Myanmar officials at Yangon Airport.

Kathmandu, April 12 (HS): The Nepalese government has sent 27 tons of relief supplies to the earthquake-affected Myanmar. Nepalese officials handed over the relief supplies to Myanmar officials at Yangon International Airport on Friday morning. This information was provided by Tapas Aacharya, the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responsible for Southeast Asia. The relief supplies include food items, daily necessities, and medicines.

The Nepalese Ambassador Harish Chandra Ghimire and Myanmar officials were present at Yangon Airport during the event. There was also a brief discussion between officials of both countries on how further assistance could be provided from Nepal in the coming days. During this time, a Nepalese official reminded that the Myanmar government had assisted Nepal during the 2015 earthquake. Myanmar official Heu Wai Lwin stated that more than 3,590 people have died so far in the earthquake, while 4,800 have been injured, and 148 are missing.

Ambassador Ghimire mentioned that approximately 150,000 Nepalese are working in Myanmar, and 18 of them lost their lives in the earthquake. About 15 Nepalese are still missing as a result of this disaster. A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck on March 28.
