Nepal urges India to make electricity import uninterrupted

Kathmandu, 13 February (HS): Nepal’s Energy Minister Deepak Khadka met India’s Energy Minister Manohar Lal and urged him to make the system of electricity import in Nepal uninterrupted. Energy Minister Khadka, who arrived in New Delhi to participate in the India Energy Week (11-14 February) conference, has urged his Indian counterpart Manohar Lal to give necessary guidelines to continue the uninterrupted export of 1000 MW electricity being done by India.

Regarding this meeting, Energy Minister Khadka said that due to winter season from December to March, electricity production in Nepal is less. Due to this, electricity is imported from India in these four months.

At present, a request has been made to keep the one thousand megawatt electricity being sent from India running uninterrupted even in peak hours. Khadka said that the Nepal government also expressed gratitude to the Indian Energy Minister for the agreement reached recently between the two countries for the construction of the transmission line. He expressed confidence that soon an agreement will be signed between the two countries on the basis of this consensus.
