Nepal's Oli govt on backfoot;preparing to withdraw land related ordinance

Kathmandu, March 04 (HS: After opposition from the ruling party itself, the Nepal government is preparing to withdraw one of the 6 ordinances. Now the government has indicated to withdraw the land related ordinance. After the meeting of the top leaders of the Nepali Congress and the UML party, the two major constituents of the ruling coalition, there has been a consensus on withdrawing the land related ordinance.

In this regard, a meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, after which the Prime Minister’s political advisor Vishnu Rimal said that at present five ordinances will be presented in the Parliament. He said that the ordinance on which the Madhesi party participating in the ruling coalition is opposed will be withdrawn. Rimal also said that the Madhesi parties have assured support on passing 5 out of the 6 ordinances. The government will bring another bill in place of the ordinance to be withdrawn.

The Oli government had also prepared to bring a law on party division in the Parliament to pass these ordinances, but after opposition from the parties of the ruling coalition, the government had to retreat from this too.
