Tel Aviv, March 21 (HS): Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet has unanimously voted to dismiss Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, with his final day set for April 10, moving it up from April 20. This marks a historic first in Israel, as a government has never before fired the Shin Bet leader.
Bar, who did not attend the meeting, criticized the dismissal as influenced by conflicts of interest and an invalid attempt to undermine the agency amid its investigation into Qatar’s influence.
Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara opposed the decision, highlighting the need for a recommendation from an advisory committee before proceeding with Bar’s dismissal.
