Guwahati, 12 March (HS): General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chetan Kumar Srivastava inspected the ongoing rail infrastructure development works at the Multi Modal Logistics Hub (MMLH) of Jogighopa being developed under the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal Master Plan. The project is under Rangia Division of NFR. During his visit, he closely assessed the progress of railway construction related works including track laying, yard development and connectivity enhancement and ensured that all the works are in line with the planned schedule for the early completion of the terminal hub.

NFR CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma today informed that Jogighopa MMLP is a strategically important infrastructure project, which will act as a logistics hub for Northeast India. It will enhance connectivity through railways and inland waterways. It is located 91 km from Gelephu (Bhutan), 108 km from Bangladesh border and 147 km from Guwahati, making it a major gateway for cross-border trade with Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. The terminal will be equipped with warehouses, cold storage, customs clearance facility and several rail sidings, giving a major boost to cargo transportation.

The railway component of the project involves construction of three rail lines, with plans to expand to five lines in the future. After full operation, the terminal is expected to handle 25 inbound and 25 outbound rakes per month, facilitating transportation of auto components, fertilizers, food grains, steel, coal, clinker, stone chips and other essential commodities. The recently inaugurated inland waterways component has already started operations, enabling seamless movement of cargo to Bangladesh.

The terminal project, when completed, will demonstrate immense economic and logistics benefits. This will reduce transportation costs, improve supply chain efficiency and boost industrial development in the North Eastern region and its surrounding areas. This MMLP will play a vital role in strengthening India’s Act East Policy by promoting trade, supporting local industries and improving trade relations with neighbouring countries.

Work on the Jogighopa Multi Modal Logistics Hub is progressing at a rapid pace, making it a major game changer for freight logistics in the region. This will strengthen NFR’s commitment to enhance railway infrastructure for economic development and connectivity.
