Nirmala Sitharaman opens Kolkata's 'Corporate Bhavan' uniting MCA departments

Nirmala Sitharaman Inaugurates 'Corporate Bhavan' in Kolkata; New Multi-Office Facility brings MCA Departments Under One Roof

Delhi, 1 May (H.S.): The Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman, inaugurated the ‘Corporate Bhavan’ in New Town, Kolkata, which will accommodate multiple offices of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, such as the Regional Directorate (East), Registrar of Companies, Official Liquidator, SFIO, NCLT (Kolkata Bench), and IBBI. This facility aims to streamline regulatory services for companies, insolvency professionals, auditors, startups, and investors, serving as a single-window interface that enhances operational efficiency, reduces costs, and accelerates approval processes—ultimately improving Ease of Doing Business.

Sitharaman emphasized that the regulatory framework should not only promote good governance but also foster enterprise, encourage formalization, and build trust in the systems. Additionally, the Corporate Bhavan houses the inaugural ‘Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) Facilitation Centre,’ designed to assist aspiring interns in navigating their application processes. The seven-story building, covering approximately 13,239 square meters at a cost of Rs. 150.43 crores, incorporates energy-efficient features, waste recycling, and smart parking.

The PMIS Centre, a collaboration between the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the Confederation of Indian Industry, aims to connect eligible youth (aged 21-24) with internship opportunities. A dedicated team will guide candidates not in full-time education or employment, help with registration, and differentiate suitable internships for them, while also raising awareness of professional opportunities through outreach initiatives.
