Nishikant Dubey's statement is contempt of Supreme Court says SCBA

New Delhi, April 22 (H.S.): The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has criticized the statements made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey regarding the Supreme Court and Chief Justice. In a statement issued by SCBA Secretary Vikrant Yadav, it was stated that Nishikant Dubey’s remarks are not only defamatory but also amount to contempt of the Supreme Court.

The SCBA’s statement emphasized that criticism of the Supreme Court as an institution and of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna as an individual is unacceptable. The statement further mentioned that legal action should be taken against such remarks. The SCBA expressed hope that Attorney General R. Venkataramani would grant consent for contempt of court proceedings against Nishikant Dubey, in order to uphold the dignity of the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition that seeks to initiate contempt proceedings against Nishikant Dubey and has ordered that the matter be listed for hearing next week.
