No Compromise on Sustainability in India’s Growth Journey: Piyush Goyal

Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, September 15 (HS): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Monday asserted that sustainability remains non-negotiable in India’s growth trajectory. He emphasized that harmonization with global standards will promote quality, free trade, and greater international collaboration.

Goyal was addressing the inaugural session of the 89th General Meeting and Exhibition of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Speaking on the theme “Promoting a Sustainable World,” he reaffirmed India’s commitment to sustainability, safety, and efficiency.

Highlighting the strategic role of standards in consumer protection, competitiveness, and climate responsibility, the minister said the government is working in mission mode to foster a nationwide culture of quality and sustainability. He underlined that the power and electrical industries will play a pivotal role in achieving energy efficiency and sustainable progress.

Stressing that sustainability is a core pillar of India’s development model, Goyal pointed to the country’s cultural ethos of respecting nature and living in harmony with the environment. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Zero Defect, Zero Effect” vision, he explained that it embodies two commitments: ensuring zero-defect products and services of the highest quality, and pursuing sustainability with zero impact on the planet.

Goyal called upon the global community to work together for a standardized, safe, and sustainable future—one where harmonized standards accelerate growth, safeguard consumers, and protect the planet for future generations.
