Repeat Offender Booked Under PSA After Evading Arrest for Months

JAMMU, Mar 31: In a decisive action, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained a repeat offender linked to bovine smuggling in Kathua district under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA), officials confirmed on Monday.

The accused, Amit Kumar, a resident of Phinder in R S Pura tehsil of Jammu, was taken into preventive custody due to his continued involvement in illegal cattle transportation activities. Authorities stated that his repeated offences posed a threat to public order.

The detention followed formal orders issued by the District Magistrate Kathua, enabling police to execute a PSA warrant against him. Officials noted that the accused had been evading arrest for an extended period despite being wanted in multiple cases.

Police records reveal that several FIRs had been registered against him at Hiranagar and Lakhanpur police stations under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

After his detention, Kumar was shifted to Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu, where he will remain lodged under preventive custody, officials added.
