Novak Djokovic To Attend Laureus World Sports Awards

Madrid, April 7 (HS): The world’s top athletes are preparing to gather in Madrid for the Laureus World Sports Awards 2025, which will take place at the prestigious Palacio de Cibeles on April 21. This ceremony is one of the most esteemed honors in the sporting world, celebrating its 25th edition this year. For the second consecutive year, the event will be held in Madrid and will be broadcast to 160 countries.

At the forefront of this list is 24-time Grand Slam champion and current ‘Laureus World Sportsman of the Year’ Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, who has won this award five times, said, Returning to Madrid is incredibly exciting, especially on this special occasion of Laureus completing 25 years. Winning my fifth award here last year is one of the invaluable memories of my career. It’s not just a moment of honor but also an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to changing the world through sports – as Nelson Mandela told us 25 years ago. After winning this award in 2024, Djokovic also won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, making him one of the select players to achieve a Golden Slam.

This year’s Laureus World Sports Awards 2025 will see the presence of many legendary athletes from around the world. From the football world, stars like Cafu, Ruud Gullit, Luis Figo, Fabio Capello, and Kosovare Asllani will arrive in Madrid. In athletics, Edwin Moses, Nawal El Moutawakel, and Tegla Loroupe will be in attendance, while Tanni Grey-Thompson will represent para-athletics. The rugby field will be graced by Sean Fitzpatrick, Bryan Habana, and Hugo Porta. In skiing, Maria Hoefl-Riesch, and in cycling, Chris Hoy will also be part of this event.

From the world of tennis, shining stars like Novak Djokovic, Boris Becker, Garbiñe Muguruza, Mansour Bahrami, and Belinda Bencic will gather in Madrid. Gymnastics will see the presence of Nadia Comăneci and Li Xiaoping. From motor racing, Emerson Fittipaldi will be present, along with Steve Redgrave from rowing, Luciana Aymar from hockey, and Nicole David from squash. Para swimming will feature Daniel Dias, windsurfing will see Robbie Naish, cricket will have Steve Waugh, and para fencing will include Beatriz Vieira – all contributing to this historic ceremony.
